Introducing Mr and Mrs Solberg!

How would I best describe my wedding day? In one word… magical. The sun was shining, the sky was clear, the beach was looking spectacular and the moon stood high in the sky. The air was crisp and cold, but I was too nervous (and excited at the same time!) to notice. Preparations began at 10:30 at my Mum and Dad’s holiday house ‘Whitewash Cottage’ in Huskisson (you should take a look – it’s absolutely gorgeous – not to mention a fantastic place for a relaxed holiday!) http://www.stayz.com.au/83946. I thought this would be the perfect place for my ‘getting ready’ photos to take place, with all the nice little details in the background. Gemma, my bridesmaid and I were the first to arrive, followed by a friend of a friend who was putting together a video for us (I am yet to see the end result, but I can’t wait!). Shortly after, Erin from ‘Centre of Attention Hairdressing’ and Belinda from ‘Blush By Belle’ came to start the hair and make-up procession. My mum and Oma had their hair and make-up done, while at the same time helping me finish off some last minute decorations! While I was having my hair done, Gemma painted my toenails and fingernails, and before we knew it, it was time to put on the dress! The morning seemed to go by so quickly, but we managed to have perfect order and we were ready right on time.

The rest of the day is a blur… my Dad picked us up, and we went to Mum and Dad’s house to pick up Keelah (our Newfoundland!) and to dress her up in her new collar with a nice arrangement of flowers from the Shady Fig. She was so well behaved. She jumped into the back of the car right on cue, and was ready to lead us down the aisle. All I can remember is walking down to the beach, with my arm linked with my Dad’s and seeing Danny waiting for me at the end. Everything else is blurred or faded out around the edges, and I could just feel myself giggling uncontrollably the whole way down the aisle. I was so happy – from the inside out. The day was freezing, but I didn’t really feel anything until afterwards. I was on such a high. And Danny looked so handsome all dressed up in his suit with the coolest tie! I am very lucky.

I am so glad that we have such beautiful photos from Dean Dampney (Cloudface Photography). He did a wonderful job, which helped bring back memories and special moments of the day. I am so grateful to have such great photos – otherwise I would have been in such a panic that the day had just gone so fast and I didn’t have a chance to capture any of it. But the photos really reflect the mood of the day and just how perfect it all was.

Afterwards at the reception (at Seagrass Brasserie), it was lovely to catch up with everyone. Danny and I both agree that we were so lucky to be surrounded by all of our family and friends and people we love. It can’t get much better than that! But what a great end to a beautiful day – delicious food, great music (Stewart Harrison Trio) and the BEST company. Thank you to all of you for your heartfelt messages and your blessings. Love to you all.

We’re Getting Married!

Saturday the 14th of May will be our BIG day! And the weather is looking… acceptable. Possibly blowing a gail and freezing cold, but not raining, so that’s great news. It’s been a whirlwind getting organised and trying to manage and run both of the shops. Talk about hectic. Our only day off will be on Friday the day before to make sure that all the small things are taken care of and everything will fall into place. Keelah our Newfoundland is booked in for a wash and blowdry, as she will be our super cute ring bearer! I have told her she needs to be on her best behaviour, and that includes no whinging when she gets bored. We are having a beach wedding, which will be nice and casual. Cold, but I have my fingers crossed that the sun might come out at least for an hour! And then we’re off to Turkey on our Honeymoon! I CAN’T WAIT!!!!! I am so excited! I’m sure I’ll have a lot to blog about when we get back. I’m hoping to bring back some beautiful overdyed and patchwork rugs and ceramic pieces for home (and possibly the shop if we can find them at an affordable price! images below – aren’t they gorgeous!). So until then, I hope you are all keeping warm in this cold snap we are experiencing. Speaking of preparing for the cold, we’ve got some beautiful warm merino wool, alpaca and mohair throws in store! See you next time with hopefully some inspiring photos from our travels to Turkey!

Our treasure is finally arriving

Last blog we mentioned our plans to travel….well, we followed through on those plans and the fruits of our labour are about to arrive any day, fingers are crossed before Easter!

Our last trip was so fun. We both got to go this time and it made the whole process so much smoother and of course having company was good too. What we didn’t expect was just how cold it would be. It was freeeezing! We were definitely not prepared for just how cold it was and how hard it made it to do our sourcing in cold, old buildings with no heating. We would have killed for a simple pair of gloves each. Despite this minor setback each day we still managed to find treasure. We stayed a few more days this time as well, which allowed us to travel farther and wider than previously….which we think shows in the variety of pieces we found.

The other exciting news we have is that we are doing….actually we have done a newsletter which we will start to send out regularly. Our first one will hit your inbox very shortly (presuming we have your email address?), otherwise send us your email address and we will include you in our newsletter run.

So if you’re around, drop by, we have over 55 pieces of furniture. Some of which will make it into the shop and others we will have in storage available to be viewed at request. All are one-offs of course so once they sell, they’re off to forever homes.

See you soon

We are on a big jet plane …soon!

Happy New Year all! The weather in our country is making it hard to have a happy new year for some, but hopefully it will settle down soon, although our country is always full of surprises weather wise

Blogging has been one of our weaker points so this year the resolution is to stay in contact more and more. With so many people on Facebook we will finally join you there soon, as well linking together a newsletter regularly. Our online store gets harder and harder. Having an emphasis on one-offs and unique pieces makes a shop online quite ambitious, but we will do something to make those pieces available to at least view online.

It is going to be the year of travel for Few and Far we hope. Our importing has been successful for us in so many ways and we hope to not only continue but build on what we are doing so far. It was always our intention to travel as much as we could, to bring back furniture and decor from faraway places built by creative minds.

We are busy at the moment researching and researching our travel plans in search of treasure. India is one place that has always attracted us with it’s amazing and  colourful array of textiles and furniture. For now though we need to revisit Northern China. The furniture and antique pieces have all been so popular. So much so we are out of stock. If anyone out there has any requests please let us know via email or phone and we’ll do our best to find something that suits your measurements and needs. We will be in Northern China as of March so are hoping to expect our shipment to arrive at our little doorstop just before Easter early to mid April. As the pieces we buy are antiques it’s a matter of searching for something that suits your needs, so no guarantees other than we will tirelessly scour the region. There will also be no obligations to buy from us. If we don’t believe the piece is worthy of us to sell we won’t be bringing it back at all.

Gotta go – my chop stick skills definitely need some work and only a few weeks till we are on our big jet plane bound for China.

Aint we been busy

I just thought I would write with my excuse as to why we haven’t written a blog for SO LONG!!!! I’m very sorry! BUT, the exciting news is that we now have 2 stores! We have just opened another exciting venture – across the road in Huskisson (sorry to all of you who wanted to know if we have a store in Sydney – we’d love to open one – maybe this could be our next adventure – but Danny just said he would kill me!). Harsh. Our new store is called ‘Indigo Love’ and is a hand picked collection of mens and ladies clothing, footwear and accessories, and also an assortment of cool little homewares and curiosities. So this has been consuming our lives for the past 6 months. Once again, my Dad has outdone himself with the shop fitout – it all looks amazing. And again, we’d really like to thank both of our families for all of their help while we were setting up – we definitely could not have done it without them… again.

So next time you come for a visit to Few and Far, be sure to drop in and say hi, and we can direct you to our new store – as it’s a little bit hidden – tucked around the corner of the big yellow building on the corner (just up from the wharf)… and you’ll be able to enjoy a yummy lunch or breakfast from Pilgrims cafe too! We’re sharing the space with them (Pilgrims from Milton) and have created more of a ‘lifestyle’ store… it is such a nice place to sit and enjoy the view, or even just to relax – the atmosphere is very inviting.

I’m so sorry again for not keeping up with the blogs (or the online store – for those of you who have been waiting so patiently!). But we promise that in the new year, we will get everything up and running – just in time for another buying trip to Beijing… if there is anything that you ever need sourced, please do not hesitate to contact us and we can do our best as finding that special piece.

Until next time, I hope you all have a very Merry Christmas and an exciting New Year. We have a lot in store for the new year!

All shapes and sizes

One of the biggest benefits of going to China was to be able to hand select our own pieces. In doing that we could get a great variety of sizes, finishes and colours. A lot of our smaller pieces are going to new homes a lot faster than we anticipated which is Kind of great! Our selection is proving popular and being able to offer them a little cheaper is working.

The next few pieces have made it in store for many reasons, some of which is we need some bigger display pieces to help us merchandise. For instance the taller cabinets with timber screening. For storage and display, these pieces are fantastic for us. We love their versatility, without being too big and overpowering. In a stripped blonde finish, they suit so many interiors.

The tiled dark cabinet is probably our favourite piece. It has it’s own personality almost with the mix of colour and pattern in the tiles. It’s won a few hearts and has had the tape measure run over it by many admirers hoping their space allows. It’s such a unique and lovable piece of furniture.

Hope everyone has a great long weekend and makes the most of the welcome warmer weather!

From top to bottom

Tile cabinet (100yrs) $1860 – 155 x 55 x 90
Dongbei cabinet (120yrs) $1700 – 135 x 45 x 149
10 x drawer cabinet (80-100yrs) $1450 – 158 x 45 x 83
Cabinet w/ bookcase (100yrs) $1750 – 135 x 45 x 156
