This post has been a long time coming, and I know there are no excuses, but at least I can say... we've been busy!!! Back in February we were presented an offer we couldn't refuse, which involved taking up a retail space and opening Few and Far in the beautiful town of Leura, in the Blue Mountains NSW. While I hadn't been there since I was a child, and had no idea what the town was like today, Danny and I have always been open to these kinds of opportunities, and it was an exciting proposition. So we drove up for the day for a look around and fell in love with the town immediately... it wasn't something we could say no to! And so the planning began...
Along with all of the paperwork and legals required to secure the lease, we had some exciting ideas for our new home. Everything needed to happen quickly, as Easter was fast approaching and the Mountains tourist trade was almost in full swing. After we finally got hold of the keys, renovations began. We were very fortunate in that the original store had some really beautiful features - a polished old hardwood floor, high ceilings, and abundance of natural light and a back bay window with one of the best views of Katoomba in town! So we didn't need to do too much (which is unusual!), except add our stamp.
Again, we couldn't have done it without my wonderful and very talented Dad who was responsible for the renovations and building work. He made and milled all of our hardwood shelves from logs collected from their property in the Snowy Mountains, and is the only one I trust to understand and interpret our ideas. But I couldn't forget to say a big thanks to my beautiful Mum either - trying to set up a new store with a new baby isn't easy and Mum has always been there to make sure Sari is content and brought back to me when she's hungry!
The goal was to open before the Easter Long Weekend, and as usual, we scraped in on deadline, with an all nighter, to open on the Thursday before Good Friday just to make sure we'd had a bit of practice trading before the onslaught!
We couldn't have felt more welcome. It felt like the whole community came in to say hello and welcome us over that weekend, and we had nothing but compliments and positive feelings. It was a great few days.
So if you're out and about in the Blue Mountains, please pop in to our Leura store and come and say hello to our amazing bunch of staff. We've got a good mix of one off pieces of furniture and decorator items, sofas and lighting, as well as bed linen, kitchenware and the usual smaller items including the whole range of home fragrance from iKOU, all made in the Blue Mountains (for a perfect souvenir!).
Next project... Few and Far Bowral! Stay tuned...
