Traditional almirahs, big and small, were a staple in every Indian household. They sometimes stored salt and grain in the kitchen, or even saris, quilts and other textiles in the bedroom. Uncovered in Rajasthan, this raised 60-year-old almirah was from a rural haveli of the region and may have been used to house seasonal grain. We love the unique style of this almirah, with room underneath for woven baskets or even a plant or too. It has been handcrafted from solid teak, fitted with delicate glass panels and sealed in a natural wax to protect its original paintwork.
