Almirahs, big and small, were a staple in every Indian household. They sometimes stored salt and grain in the kitchen, or even saris, quilts and other textiles in the bedroom. Found in Rajasthan, this petite 70-year-old almirah was from a rural haveli of the region and may have been used to house seasonal grain and fragrant herbs and dried spices. It was handcrafted from solid teak and has been fitted with delicate glass panels and polished in a natural wax to protect its original paintwork.
