Almirahs, big and small, were a staple in every Indian household. They are a treasure we return to season after season because they are so varied and unique; some show cracked, colourful paintwork, and others show exquisite engravings or original hardware. Their purpose in each home was as varied as their appearance, but most often they were used to store salt and grain in the kitchen, or saris and kantha quilts in the bedroom. Found in Rajasthan, this petite almirah was lovingly handcrafted from solid teak over 70 years ago. It has been fitted with delicate glass panels and polished in a protective natural wax.
