Art is the soul of a space—a powerful, visual story that speaks directly to the heart. It is with immense excitement that we introduce Emma Maggs, an award-winning photographer who joins us as our newest Artist in Residency. Emma's ethereal monochromatic underwater portraits are more than just photographs; they are a profound, cinematic study of the feminine spirit.
Emma captures the wild, unguarded beauty of women and nature in frames that speak of strength, vulnerability, and truth. Her photography has spanned oceans, stories, and lives, and is now available in Few & Far as collectible prints.
Emma Maggs' unique perspective is informed by a 16-year career as a Producer, Director, and Artist in media, creating moving content for major networks like MTV, Red Bull, and Discovery Network UK. With each project, she brought a trademark candour and a hunger for the truth—a fierce desire now turned toward fine art photography.
Her work is best described as ferociously feminine, a style that marries the provocative energy of Richard Avedon with the raw, uniquely Australian honesty of Germaine Greer. Emma’s lens celebrates the female form in all its diversity of shapes, using natural elements to challenge her subjects.
"Maggs places her subjects in situations that allow them to reveal angles on themselves—both emotionally and physically—that they would normally keep hidden."
This approach makes for imagery that invokes a sense of allure and storytelling, saying so much with just twists and curves.
Emma’s pursuit of beauty and truth has taken her across the world. Shot beneath the surface of oceans spanning the east coast of Australia, the Pacific waters of Fiji, and the Adriatic Sea in Europe, each work holds a sense of place while transcending geography.
From the luminous shores of Jervis Bay to the depths of the Adriatic Sea, these portraits explore intimacy and expansiveness in equal measure. They unite women in harmony with their surroundings and reveal a quiet strength within the fluidity of the natural world, ultimately becoming universal symbols of empowerment, self-love, and freedom.
This same fierce desire for truth-telling has inspired her interview series, Wildfemmes, exploring the secrets women use to ‘stay wild’ in a world that craves conformity. This ethos is palpable in her art, reinforcing the simple truth that strength is forged, not found. Emma is based on the Coal Coast of NSW, bringing a coastal sensibility to her work.
This exclusive series is a captivating study in light and shadow, capturing women as powerful, weightless figures. Each print in this collection tells a story of strength revealed—a reminder that wildness and vulnerability can exist side by side.
Evoking the nostalgia of a 1970s summer, this artwork captures a moment of poise and quiet strength beneath the water’s surface. The textured pebblecrete backdrop and open-weave fabric create a striking interplay of light, shadow, and movement.
Captured beneath the crystalline waters of the Adriatic Sea off the coast of Montenegro, this artwork unites muses from across the world in a moment of weightless harmony.
