When designing a space, the ultimate goal is never to simply fill a space, but to build layers of depth that invite you to slow down. To celebrate the launch of our new Elemental Alchemy cushion collection, we sat down with our Interior Styling Manager, Michelle, to explore how to master the art of styling cushions, tactile layering and how to ground a modern home.
Our latest drop is an exploration of the texture of softness. Crafted from premium wool, silk, linen, and cotton, each piece explores dimension in its own unique way—utilising dense weaves, sculpted surfaces, shaggy piles, tonal patterning, and beautifully weathered colour.
A thoughtful vignette always begins with a grounded palette. The Elemental Alchemy collection features an organic spectrum of smoky grays, softened neutrals, warm clay, and earthen tones. These hues are specifically chosen because they sit naturally with the raw materials already in your home—reclaimed timber, natural stone, and rich leather.
"These tones, for me, work quietly in the background rather than taking over a space. It is a very considered palette that builds depth because of the subtle shifts in tone rather than strong contrast or brightness.
Because the palette stays quiet and balanced, it never feels visually heavy or overwhelming. It's also incredibly easy to style."

Softness for me is more than a visual idea - it’s something you feel in the way you live in a space.
Natural fibres each bring their own quality to a room, and that’s what makes them so beautiful to layer together and something I’m personally drawn to. Wool adds warmth and texture, linen keeps things relaxed, cotton brings everyday softness, and silk brings a quiet, refined lustre.
I really love this collection for that reason - the way those materials sit together so effortlessly and feel so easy to work with.
Together, each piece is designed to layer in a way that quietly shapes how a space feels, not just how it looks.
Homes today often lean quite minimal, and texture is one of the simplest ways to bring warmth and connection to a space.
A nubby weave or a shaggy pile adds warmth and depth, but more importantly, it changes how a space feels. It makes a room feel softer, warmer and more welcoming. It's also about that intentional mix of texture - introducing softness alongside materials in our home like stone, timber and metal so the space feels more layered and considered.
Intentional layering with texture turns a styled space into something that feels personal and lived in. Even within a neutral palette, it’s the variation in material that creates depth and character and supports how a room feels when you walk in.
When it comes to organic modern styling, the magic happens in the mix. The arrangement should always feel highly considered, but never overly matched.
On a living room sofa, start by establishing structure. Begin with your larger, more structurally restrained cushions at the back and bring the most tactile or dimensional pieces forward. Place a dense weave beside a shaggy pile, or position a sculpted surface directly against a smoother, classic linen.
"Think about how you want the sofa to feel first, then let the textures do the work.
One of the things I love about this collection is the intentional mix of textures and then varying weights and weaves. The finer natural fibres, sculpted textures, shaggy pile and nubby weaves all bring something different, and it's the contrast between them that creates depth.
My advice is not to let one texture dominate. Instead, mix chunkier pieces with finer weaves so the arrangement feels balanced, warm and inviting.
Three to five cushions is usually enough. The result should feel relaxed and collected, never over-styled."

For a beautifully lived-in arrangement, avoid placing everything too perfectly. Let your cushions lean, overlap, and gently soften the rigid edges of your furniture. Introduce a woven throw blanket nearby to marry the layers together and create an instant sense of warmth.
"Think of it as balance rather than a formula.
Start by pairing refined and tactile textures together - something like the refined soft silk and linen mix of Sabi, alongside a more textural weave like Kawa. This creates a calm, grounded base without feeling flat.
From there, add a feature piece like a curly wool to bring in depth and interest. This is what gives the arrangement character and stops it feeling too predictable.
It’s less about rules and more about contrast and restraint. In an earthy palette especially, those subtle shifts in texture are what make it feel warm and considered."

When dressing the bedroom, let the texture do the heavy lifting rather than relying on bright patterns. A pair of grounded, raw-fiber neutrals paired with just one richer surface texture or a single deeper tone is often enough to entirely shift the mood of the sanctuary.
"A bed should feel calm and restorative, not over-styled.
If you're aiming for a minimal look and want your space to feel refined, keep it simple - two grounded cushions with one textural piece is often enough. It keeps things soft without overwhelming the space.
If your approach is more relaxed and inviting, especially through winter, you can build in another layer of cushions and use layered bedcovers and tactile throws and furs to add depth, warmth and a more lived-in feel.
It's about creating a sense of ease - the kind of space you actually want to unwind in."

We asked Michelle to share her personal favourites from the new collection.
"I'd always start with the palette, and I naturally gravitate towards gentle earthy tones. I just can't go past the warmth they bring to a space.
My combination would be the Moroa, Hikari and Kumo cushions. Moroa creates a grounding base, Hikari brings a rich earthy warmth, and Kumo introduces another layer of texture that adds depth without feeling heavy.
I can picture them on a neutral sofa like the Ziggy, styled simply with one of our Encrusted Vases and a few sculptural branches. If you wanted to lean further into warmth and depth, they would also look beautiful on the Talon Sofa in Mahogany."
