We got the chance to interview her about life as a stylist and her go-to tips for designing and re-designing spaces at home!
When did you decide you wanted to be a stylist?
I knew I wanted to be a stylist from an early age. I have always loved styling whether it be clothes, interiors, food. Making visually pleasing scenes has always been a passion of mine.
Where do you start when thinking about redesigning a room?
I start by working out a plan. Seeing what works in the room and what doesn’t and how this may be able to be reworked to be better. It might be simply changing the floor plan layout or buying new pieces of furniture that will work in the space.
What are common design mistakes you see people make in styling a room or home?
A common design mistake I see is people placing all the furniture on the walls. If you have the space, pulling your sofas out away from the walls creates interest and also avoids lots of dead space.
What is a design philosophy you live by?
Spaces need to be cohesive and harmonious. They need to tell your story.
What makes "good" interior design?
Good design ultimately comes down to understanding your clients needs, having good communication and problem solving abilities.
What inspires you in your styling?
Art, fashion, textiles, music, history can all play a part in inspiring your creativity as a stylist.
What is an essential piece of furniture or decor that everyone should have in their living room?
The most important piece would be your sofa.
What key questions do you ask a client before styling their home?
What styles are you drawn to? What colour palettes do you like? And of course what is the budget we are working in.
How would you describe your personal style?
I love the mix of old world meets new. Scandinavian design has always been a big influence on my style and how I style my own home. I also love the slow living movement.
What advice would you give someone looking to start a career as an interior stylist?
Just do it! As the saying goes, if you’re doing something you love then you will never work a day in your life...
What are you most passionate about when styling peoples homes?
I love telling their story and creating a space that they will love to be in. It’s so special to create that feeling of loving their space for my clients - so when they come home after a busy day, they just want to be home.
