For Saturday Indesign 2026, we have invited ten artists to transform selected pieces from our collection through their own creative practice, giving familiar Few & Far forms new meaning and expression.
Nicole brings a playful, instinctive approach to the exhibition, shaped by colour, composition, humour and the unexpected.
Her creative world moves fluidly between painting, interiors, photography and storytelling. Whether composing flowers and familiar objects on canvas, creating an image or dreaming up an entire visual world, Nicole is drawn to colour, character, humour and the beautifully unexpected.
Her work spans fine art, editorial, campaigns and creative collaborations – connected by her instinctive eye and sense of play.
Born in Canada, Nicole lives and works in Austinmer, Australia.
I was immediately drawn to this piece because it reminded me of my stacked fruit paintings.
The scale. It’s bigger than I imagined and feels really impactful as a sculptural form.
It’s also made of lovely paper, full of textures and hidden imperfections that I found quite intriguing and beautiful up close.
I knew I wanted to transform the forms into fruit somehow, but it took me a while to work out the balance of the composition and colours.
It’s interchangeable too, which adds another element of fun. Originally, I intended to papier-mâché some leaves for a couple of the fruits, but after asking my family what they saw, I realised it was open to interpretation.
I ended up liking it less obvious and more sculptural – something that invites curiosity and conversation.
Acrylic paint, applied with brushes and my fingers to build texture in different areas.
It was a lot more physical than I realised it would be. I was standing up, sitting down, crouching, hanging upside down and up on tiptoes.
My legs feel like I’ve run a marathon, which is an added little badge of satisfaction.
