Conversations with Creatives

Writer and photographer Jessica Bellef has spent years observing the way people live with objects, colour, memory & feeling.

Her work moves between interiors, creativity and the quieter rituals of home, with an eye for pieces that feel personal rather than perfect.

For this first edition of Conversations with Creatives, Jessica selected three Few & Far pieces drawn together by texture, weight and form: a soft sheepskin, an organic stool and a brass spoon. Each piece carries a different presence, but together they speak to the way objects can shape a room, and the way a room can shape a day.

The objects we surround ourselves with shape our days, our emotions, our thoughts, how we act & what we feel.

Home is wherever the things are that I value — things, or people. The objects we surround ourselves with shape our days, shape our emotions, shape our thoughts, shape how we act and what we say and how we feel. My favourite memory of my home is the kitchen in the morning — the sun just streams through, and the countertops are original seventies Dandelion yellow. A nice space to watch the sun wake up and move over the house.

My favourite object is a little lamp from my grandma and grandpa's house that just feels really natural and beautiful. I remember it sitting in their hallway. My preference is secondhand or handmade. I'm all for combining vintage and modern — that's when really interesting interiors and spaces come together. That friction is what makes a space engaging. Every home should have art. It doesn't have to be expensive — a friend's picture, something your child has painted, a poster from a film you loved. I think it engages the full space. You kind of feel a bit more hugged by the space.
