There is something special about bringing out your finest dinnerware and adding a personal touch to the table display at Christmas. Here at Few and Far, we absolutely love the festive season and all the magic that it brings. Family and friends gathered together with wonderful food – we’ll cheers to that.

Let us inspire you with an elegant tablescape designed by our talented stylist Melanie McQueen and show you how to create your own inspired table setting this Christmas.

Set the scene

A good place to start when deciding on a style aesthetic for the table is to look at your other decorations – on the Christmas tree and surrounds. Use the colour palette as inspiration for your tableware, it will look cohesive and considered. We have carried across the gold hues from the tree bauble decorations into the table setting, which ties in perfectly with the neutral palette. The same ornaments used to decorate the tree have also been displayed in the centre to tie the tree and table together beautifully.

The centre of attention

For the centrepiece of the table, use decorative pieces of different heights and textures. We have chosen an array of candles to display – one pillar candle and three taper candles  in stunning holders for added interest and sophistication. The pillar candle is surrounded by green foliage, a perfect textural element that brings a touch of nature to the festive setting. If you’ve decided to incorporate florals, make sure the display isn’t too tall, as this can make it harder for those sitting opposite to chat with one another.

Tableware to dine for

Fill smaller decorative bowls with spices such as cinnamon sticks or dried fruit slices to add style, texture and aroma to your table. We have filled the stunning marble lotus leaf bowls  with Mary Valley dried lemon slices for guests to freshen up a glass of water. To elevate any fine dining experience, chargers are an essential element and will help to create a firm foundation for the tablescape. Featured in Few and Far’s Christmas setting are Lady Onyx chargers, plates and coasters, made with natural stone for a touch of opulence to the dinner table. Of course, glassware is also a must-have for the dinner table – trying pairing together a wine glass and water glass from the same set. We are in love with the Bubble Glassware selected for the festive tablescape.

Linen and layering

We can’t go past linen napery for creating a sense of relaxed sophistication and adding much needed texture, opting for natural hued linen with a matching tablecloth and napkin. Just remember when styling your table, layering is key. Decide if you're using a tablecloth or runner (or both), then pop a charger or placemat for each place setting, topped with your choice of dinnerware. When it comes to your napkin, consider whether you want to make a feature of it or not. You can practise some napkin folding origami to create a bow and Christmas tree, or instead use ornate napkin rings as a display.

Make it personal

Welcome your loved ones to the table with a handwritten place setting. Although assigned seating isn't a requirement, it can be a nice touch and you can put some thought into which guests have more in common and seat them next to each other. It could be as simple as a card, or something for your guests to take home like a personalised bauble or gift filled cracker.

We would love to see what styling designs you create using unique and festive pieces from Few and Far. Don’t forget to share your Christmas tablescapes on social media and tag us @fewandfarhome. Let the magic begin!
