Lighting is the soul of the home. It is the element that dictates the emotional landscape of a room, transforming a functional space into a lived-in, nurturing sanctuary. From the 'meditative walk' of an evening ritual to the ethereal grace of our newest sculptural pendants, explore my personal rules for lighting a home that isn't just seen, but profoundly felt.

Lighting is the soul of the home. It is the element that dictates the emotional landscape of a room, seamlessly transforming a functional space from a purely functional area into a truly lived-in, nurturing sanctuary. I’ve always believed that lighting isn’t just about visibility—it’s about visibility with feeling.

As we move into 2026, we are more energised than ever to uncover pieces that feel personal and a touch luxurious. This season, our lens is focused on "The New Home"—a space that feels curated, not just decorated. At the center of that vision is our newest collection of Statement Pendants. Here is my personal guide to lighting with intention, layered with the rituals we cherish at Few and Far.

1. Play with Scale & Silhouette

Don’t be afraid of the "oversized." In the world of design, I often say make an impact! A pendant that feels grand in the showroom often feels just right once it’s hung over a dining table or a kitchen island.

The Rosebery showroom—our industrial-chic heart in the city—is a testament to this. It’s a space where sleek silhouettes meet high-octane energy. When you choose a large, sculptural silhouette, you create a sense of anchor and importance. It draws the eye upward, celebrating the architecture of the room while making the space feel more expansive and intentional.

2. The Feeling of Weightlessness

I am constantly chasing the feeling of lightness in our collections. When I curated our newest pendants, I was looking for a specific Modern Materiality—sculptural forms that command the air above your table while maintaining a sense of ethereal grace.

You want a piece that feels almost weightless, as if it’s floating in the room. This adds a "soul" to the space without contributing to visual noise. Much like the homes we love creating, a room is built layer by layer; these weightless forms add character and meaning until the space carries a story all its own.

3. Seek the Wabi-Sabi Glow

In stark contrast to the often harsh, unforgiving glare of single overhead lights that cast clinical shadows, I champion the immense benefits of soft, layered lighting. We look for textures that celebrate organic imperfection—woven fibers, hand-finished ceramics, or matte finishes that soften the output.

This is the masterclass in wabi-sabi that we talk about in our Suiki collection. Whether it’s a pendant or a side plate, the goal is to create a symphony of warmth and depth. These materials ensure that the light hitting your skin—and your dinner guests—is warm, inviting, and profoundly felt.

4. Create a "Pool" of Intimacy

A memorable gathering is never just about what’s served; it’s about how the space feels. It’s the small, unspoken details that make people stay a little longer.

Use lighting to define the "heart" of the night. A well-placed pendant over a dining table creates a pool of warmth that fosters easy conversation and that familiar, magic moment when someone whispers, “I don’t want this night to end.” This subtle change in illumination acts as a powerful cue for relaxation, fostering intimacy and cultivating a deeper connection to your immediate surroundings. It’s an invitation for your guests to settle in, relax, and stay just a little longer.

5. The Meditative Walk: A Nighttime Ritual

Lighting is more than a utility; it is a ritual—a daily transition that signifies the shift from the bustling energy of the day to the tranquil embrace of the evening.

I make it a rule to walk through my home every evening as the sun dips low. I draw the blinds to gently soften the outside world and systematically turn on the lamps and pendants. This deliberate, almost meditative act allows me to guide the energy of my home from the vibrant movement of daytime activity to a soothing, intimate atmosphere. It is the "Exhale" of the day.

6. The 1% Details

We often speak about the "1% improvements"—the tiny refinements and thoughtful details that define our brand and our homes. When it comes to lighting, those details are non-negotiable.

Dimmers are Essential: They allow you to control the emotional "volume" of the room.

The Warm Bulb: Always choose amber-toned bulbs. They are the difference between a room that feels sterile and one that wraps around you like a warm embrace.

The Unexpected Detail: Pair your sculptural lighting with a mismatched ceramic vessel or a seasonal branch foraged for height. A small moment of surprise makes the table feel thoughtful rather than overly curated.

A Final Thought on the Glow

At the end of the day, lighting is the most honest way we can care for our homes and the people within them. It is the final layer that softens the edges of our world and allows us to truly settle in. Whether you are hanging a bold, sculptural pendant to anchor your dining room or simply lighting a single candle to signal the end of a long day, remember that you are doing more than decorating—you are setting the stage for the stories that matter most. My hope is that as you incorporate these rituals into your own space, your home becomes a place that doesn't just look beautiful, but one that wraps around you like a warm embrace, inviting you to linger, to breathe, and to stay just a little while longer.
