A deep, rounded bowl of teak carved into a generous curve and raised on a stepped square plinth — a silhouette borrowed from classical urn forms but rendered entirely in timber, and all the softer for it. The finish is a dense matte black that has settled into the grain over decades, absorbing rather than reflecting light, with faint tool marks still legible across the surface where the wood was worked by hand. Six to eight decades old and originating in southern India, it carries the weight and quiet authority of an object that has already served a long life. Set on the floor beside a doorway or centred on a broad console, it holds its own without needing to be filled.
Sourced as a true vintage piece, no two are alike — chips, wear and variation are simply the marks of a life already lived.
