There's a certain magic in the objects we choose to surround ourselves with. They are more than decor; they are silent storytellers, holding the echoes of history and the heart of the hands that shaped them. This is the guiding philosophy behind our latest one-of-a-kind collection, a discovery of timeless treasures sourced from the heart of Northern China. This is not just a shipment of new pieces; it is a new chapter in the ongoing story of bringing the world home, a tribute to a heritage of craftsmanship and enduring beauty. Every "Collected. Curated. Crafted." release celebrates objects with soul. This chapter focuses on Chinese antiques: cabinets, consoles, vessels, and objects sourced from villages and towns across Northern China. Each one is a survivor of time — shaped by hand, lived with for generations, and chosen today for its character, and craftsmanship.
The true beauty of a one-of-a-kind piece is in its history. It’s a story told in the subtle wear on the timber, the marks of use that speak of a life once lived, a family once gathered around it. As Michelle, our Thirroul Store Manager, perfectly describes, "Each one carries its own story - from the handwoven craftsmanship to the subtle imperfections and signs of time. This sense of history creates warmth, depth, and meaning, adding a timeless layer to the spaces we love to design." This sentiment is at the very heart of this collection. The subtle marks of use are not flaws, but rather a testament to their enduring story.
Our love for these pieces is echoed across the team. As Sam, Few & Far Huskisson Store Manager, says, "With vintage furniture you are often getting a unique piece that has been around for decades! Every vintage piece has a history of stories which adds character, warmth and a timeless feel when styling your home that can't be replicated by modern pieces."
We love Chinese antiques because they are becoming increasingly scarce. As modernisation transforms traditional homes and lifestyles, fewer original pieces remain. Many were once made for everyday use — storing grain, serving food, or keeping treasured belongings safe. Today, they exist as fragments of cultural heritage, their value growing as their numbers diminish. Their details reveal their authenticity: elmwood softened by age, iron hardware forged by hand, mortise-and-tenon joinery crafted without nails. Bringing one into your home is more than a design choice. It’s a way of preserving craftsmanship and history that can no longer be easily found, and weaving that story into your own life.
The most powerful stories, however, are the ones that resonate personally. As Lisa, our Rosebery Store Manager, recounts in a beautiful story from her store, the connection to a vintage piece is often deeply emotional. "I had a lovely couple from Adelaide in Rosebery yesterday, they were looking at purchasing our pieces for their new apartment they are moving into later in the year. They were looking at lounges, armchairs, dining chairs etc. However the man kept going back to one of our beautiful vintage cabinets. He asked me all about the cabinet, where it was from, what it would have been used for, how old it was. He explained that it reminded him of the pieces he had in his family home growing up and he became very nostalgic and emotional whilst looking at it."
Lisa’s story reveals that whether a piece sparks a memory of your childhood or you simply love its timeless, one-off nature, "each vintage piece tells a beautiful story that we can then become a part of when we bring it into our homes.” Madeleine, Few & Far Retail Area Manager, says, "For me, the beauty of vintage and one-of-a-kind pieces is in the story they carry. No two items are ever the same, and that uniqueness is what makes them so special." These pieces had a life before you, and now they are ready to become a part of your own unfolding narrative, adding warmth and depth in a way that new items just can’t do.
The strength of these antiques lies in their ability to coexist with the contemporary. A rustic cabinet anchors a minimalist living room; a weathered bench softens clean architectural lines; a vessel with centuries of patina becomes a striking focal point on a marble console. Old and new together create spaces that feel layered, personal, and full of character. As
Laura, our Bowral Store Manager, says, "Incorporating pieces in your home with history and a story gives a space depth and character. It makes a room come alive rather than feeling flat. It's the mix of old and new that makes your home feel special and one of a kind."
This is our philosophy in action. "Collected. Curated. Crafted." is not about following trends. It is about timeless design, cultural preservation, and heirlooms in the making.
The spirit of these antiques lies not just in their history, but in their potential for a new future. Some of the pieces in this collection have been thoughtfully adapted for Western homes. Grain chests once used for storing rice or wheat are now reimagined as consoles, sideboards, or coffee tables. Their scale, patina, and timeless design allow them to function beautifully in new contexts, without losing the integrity of their origin. This gentle repurposing extends their story, allowing a piece created for one purpose, in another time, to continue its life in a way that feels relevant and useful today. We travel extensively to uncover treasures that reflect both authenticity and soul. Each item is hand-selected for its craftsmanship, cultural significance, and potential to enrich modern living.
This exclusive collection is a treasure trove of antiques and objects, each with its own character and purpose.
See below, we have thoughtfully selected some pieces from our new collection of Northern China one-of-a-kind antiques.
The Antique Chinese 3 Door Sideboard is a beautiful piece of history. Crafted from solid pine from the Gansu province, its rustic, hand-polished finish reveals a patina that is truly unique. At approximately 150 years old, this piece once stored grain, and now offers a stunning sense of history and warmth, a perfect storage solution for a modern dining or living room.
Our new Chinese Display Unit is a study in purposeful design, combining open shelves and enclosed cupboards for both elegant display and practical storage. This piece beautifully bridges the gap between old and new, offering a modern design with a nod to traditional craftsmanship.
The Vintage Chinese Bench is a study in timeworn, enduring character. Made from 60-80 year old reclaimed pine, with a hand-polished and waxed finish, its simple, clean lines allow its rich history to take centre stage. It's a versatile piece that can be used in an entryway, as a statement in a living room, or as a seating solution at a dining table, bringing a sense of rustic elegance to any space.
The Chinese Decorative Shanxi Pot is a true piece of artistry. Once used for food storage, this 60-80 year old pot, with its unique glazed and hand-painted finish, is now a beautiful decorative object for the modern home. It offers a splash of colour and texture that can be a stunning focal point in a living room, entryway, or on a sideboard.
The Chinese Rice Measure is a one-of-a-kind object that celebrates the beauty of humble, functional design. Crafted from poplar wood and dating back 60-80 years, its original purpose was to measure rice. Now, this piece can be a beautiful decorative object for modern interiors, repurposed as a unique planter base, a decorative storage solution, or part of a curated vignette, giving it a new life and story.
