At Few & Far, we believe that art is the soul of a space, a powerful visual narrative that resonates on a deeply emotional level. It is with immense excitement and pride that we introduce you to our newest Artist in Residency, Bel Jurd, a self-taught abstract painter and multidisciplinary designer based in Sydney, Australia. Bel’s launch is a celebration of her extraordinary talent, a tribute to her story, and an invitation for you to discover a collection of original artworks that promise to captivate and inspire.
Bel Jurd’s abstract art is an exploration of form and feeling, born from a life steeped in the raw, natural beauty of Sydney. Raised on the rural outskirts, she grew up surrounded by bushland and the raw, natural landscape. Drawing inspiration from her past and also her present coastal surroundings, Bel's paintings blend nostalgic landscapes and movement, through a sensory abstract lens. Her original artworks capture the essence of Sydney’s bushland and coastline, with an atmospheric and emotive presence, making them perfect for anyone seeking authentic art for their home.
Bel Jurd’s latest body of work, titled “Grounding Series,” is a captivating and timely collection that serves as a visual meditation in a chaotic world. The series is born from a desire to create a space where one can escape life’s noise and settle into a serene, grounded presence. In a world where we are surrounded by synthetic digital representations, the pieces within the Grounding series celebrate the artist’s emotive and imperfect mark-making process, through muted layers of pigment and fluid transparencies in earthen tones. The viewer is invited to disconnect, in order to reconnect with themselves and with the world around them.
The works engage the senses and create a feeling of connection, using an organic palette that reflects nostalgic landscapes and memories of an ephemeral moment in time. The layering of paint, inks, and pigments are intuitively moved across the canvas in fluid moments and open a dialogue between the artist’s process and abstraction. Bel's abstract paintings capture the essence of Sydney’s bushland and coastline, with an atmospheric and emotive presence, perfect for creating a calming atmosphere in any space.
The 'Grounding Series' collection by Bel Jurd features seven original paintings, each with its own story, its own voice, and its own emotional landscape.
“Meditations” is an ethereal exploration and interplay of harmonious ambience. The subtle gradients of earthen greens, jade, sage, eucalyptus and charcoal, inspired by the Australian bushland, invite the viewer into a meditative space between tone and depth. Natural pigments are inspired by the Australian bushland and nuances of light and shade are accented through movement and gestural motions. “Meditations” can be hung alone or paired with “Solitude” to create tension and duality.

Combinations of dusty tones are accented by fluid motions, creating abstract rhythms and texture. A muted, but rich palette evokes nostalgic and sensory layers where one can escape and explore introspection in an abstracted landscape. “Solitude” can be hung alone or paired with “Meditations” to create contrast through tension and duality.

A mixture of muted sage, eucalyptus, and burnt sienna merge into the depths of charcoal and russet tones. The essence of the Australian landscape is reminiscent through the natural and elemental palette, with gestural movements compelling the eye to travel across the canvas and explore its layers. "Complexities" is an ode to nature, a reflection of the nuances of bushland and an expression of its intricacies.

The Few & Far Artist in Residency program is built on the belief that art should be an accessible and integral part of our daily lives, and that we should celebrate the extraordinary stories of the creative women who bring beauty into our spaces. Bel Jurd's work perfectly aligns with this ethos. Her abstract paintings, with their deep connection to nature and their focus on emotional resonance, are the kind of pieces that instantly infuse a home with soul, character, and a compelling narrative.
We envision Bel’s art as a central element in a home’s story. Her works, styled within a real-life homewares setting (as they are in our stores), offer a perspective on how a piece of art can elevate and transform an interior. Whether it’s hung as a bold focal point above a sideboard or placed as part of a more layered vignette, her art seamlessly connects with our collection of furniture and decor, creating spaces that feel authentic, thoughtful, and deeply personal. This unique approach allows you to see exactly how to style a home with abstract art.
Bel Jurd’s story, rooted in the serene beauty of the Australian landscape, is a journey from observation to expression, from disconnection to reconnection. Her art is an invitation to pause, to feel, and to find a piece of yourself within her captivating compositions.
We warmly invite you to explore the full Bel Jurd collection at our Few & Far stores in Sydney, the Southern Highlands, and the South Coast, or browse the entire range online. Discover the piece that speaks to you, that echoes a part of your own story, and let it inspire your home's beautiful narrative.
Drawing from years of experience in homewares and design, we celebrate conscious buying, artisanal craftsmanship, and are driven by the belief that every space should be a collection of pieces that tell stories from past and present and make ways for the narrative to continue in the future. Our mission is to inspire, guide, and help you weave a unique and meaningful story within your own walls.
