For Saturday Indesign 2026, we invited ten artists to transform selected pieces from our collection through their own creative practice, giving familiar Few & Far forms new meaning and expression.
Molly brings a material-led approach to the exhibition, drawing on assemblage, found objects, memory and transformation.
Diaristic in nature, Molly’s work brings together discarded and found objects to create tactile, three-dimensional forms.
Influenced by hydro-feminism, new materialism and hauntology, her practice explores the relationships between bodies, landscapes, materials and memory.
Molly holds a Bachelor of Fine Art from the Victorian College of the Arts, a Bachelor of Fine Arts (Honours) from Monash University, and a Master of Art Therapy from La Trobe University.
I chose this piece because of the lamp’s materiality. I thought the fleshy tone would be a great base to work with.
I initially thought the lamp was made of stone, or a rose quartz of sorts, and was surprised to discover it was made of resin.
Yes. I was surprised by how sensitive I am to colour and form becoming too dominant — when the eye is constantly drawn back to one object attached to the lamp and blocks out everything else.
I’ve been balancing this through differing textures, spacing and colour.
I try to work as intuitively as possible, but my initial thought was to engrave into the resin or paint a story or fable across the lampshade.
I noticed the lamp was called Ochiba and, after some research, learnt that this translates to “fallen leaves” in Japanese. This inspired me to use living material to adorn the lamp — fallen leaves, overlooked gems, broken shells.
At this stage, I’m still developing the piece. So far, I’ve been working with shells, resin, dried rose petals, tracing paper from cosmetic wrapping and cork.
Oceanic. Witchy. Whimsical.
